Exciting things are happening at Bleckley Memorial Hospital as "the truck has left the building"!

Bleckley Memorial recently upgraded their Computed Tomography (CT) System, and brought this top quality service in-house. The updated system is now housed inside the radiology department, meaning patients are no longer required to visit the portable CT for studies! No more cold, hot, or wet trips out to the trailer!

All outpatient procedures should be scheduled through your physician, and Mrs. Jo Peacock and her staff look forward to continuing to serve all their patients with the absolute best customer service around. Please feel free to stop by and take a look at the upgrade, a GE Brightspeed 16-slice machine.

Also, don’t forget to ask your physician to schedule all your medical imaging studies right here at home!

On Wednesday, January 13, 2016, the employees of Bleckley Memorial Hospital, in conjunction with EMA, Bleckley County Sheriff's Department, Cochran Police Department, Cochran/Bleckley Fire Department, and 911 Communications, participated in a disaster preparedness exercise for active shooter situations. BMH is required by their accreditation body, DNV, to carry out two activities such as this each year in order to assure that all employees are prepared in case of an actual disaster.

The exercise began around 9:15 AM as a mock "active-shooter” entered the facility. The drill lasted for approximately 20 minutes and all hospital departments participated. Some areas of the facility were completely evacuated and other areas were place on lock-down for the completion of the exercise. The Cochran Police Department was in full body armor and assisted during the entire drill. This exercise was carried out following directions and requirements from the Department of Homeland Security. Following the event, hospital staff was briefed on what took place throughout the hospital during the mock-shooter activity and discussed the best avenues to use when faced with situations such as this.

Bleckley Memorial Hospital would like to thank all those individuals and departments who participated in the event as well as the evaluators for the event, Kristeena Roberson from Dodge County Hospital and Jennifer Stokes from the South Central Health District. According to Alaina Dykes, RN – ED Nurse Manager/Disaster Preparedness Coordinator, "It takes teamwork to keep our communities and hospitals safe. We cannot say enough to express our appreciation for all those involved in our drill, from community agencies to the awesome staff here at Bleckley Memorial Hospital.”

Bleckley Memorial Hospital is proud to announce the addition of a new GE Logic S7 Ultrasound machine to its radiology department.

This equipment upgrade allows for better quality images for the radiologists and quicker scan times. We are also able to reintroduce some exams that were discontinued on our previous machine. The new sleeker design is also more mobile and has better electronic image transmitting capabilities.

We look forward to better meeting the needs of our patients and community with this wonderful new piece of equipment. Please call the Bleckley Memorial Hospital radiology department for any scheduling needs at 478-271-6588.
